GIVENCHY Taps Matthew M. Williams as Creative Director

GIVENCHY has named a new creative director. The Parisian fashion house announced 34-year-old Matthew M. Williams will take over the highly coveted position today. Williams is the founder of his own streetwear line 1017 Alyx 9SM and has worked with celebrities like Lady Gaga and Kanye West.

“I am extremely honored to join the House of GIVENCHY,” Williams said. “The Maison’s unique position and timeless aura make it an undeniable icon and I am looking forward to working together with its ateliers and teams, to move it into a new era, based on modernity and inclusivity.”

Just a few short years ago in the early to mid-2010s GIVENCHY was everywhere in pop culture thanks to former creative director Riccardo Tisci.

Celebrities like Kanye West, Kim Kardashian, Ciara and many more donned the gothicesque looks coming out of the House. GIVENCHY even dressed Beyonce and Jay-Z for their On The Run tour in 2018.

But in the last few years, GIVENCHY has seemingly lost its first-place highly coveted status when Tisci left. Williams will take over from Clare Waight Keller who has been at the helm for the last three years.

“I am very happy to see Matthew M. WILLIAMS joins the LVMH Group. Since he took part in the LVMH Prize, we have had the pleasure of watching him develop into the great talent he is today,” Sidney Toledano, chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group.

Williams will present his first collection for the House of GIVENCHY in Paris in October.
