Hello July! & Inspiration from Langston Hughes

“I have discovered in life that there are ways of getting almost anywhere you want to go, if you really want to go.”

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore–
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over–
like a syrupy sweet?Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?”

“I am so tired of waiting, aren’t you, for the world to become good and beautiful and kind? Let us take a knife and cut the world in two – And see what worms are eating At the rind.”

“I, too, sing America.

I am the darker brother.

They send me to eat in the kitchen When company comes, But I laugh, And eat well, And grow strong.

Tomorrow, I’ll be at the table When company comes.

Nobody’ll dare Say to me, ‘Eat in the kitchen,’ Then. Besides, They’ll see how beautiful I am And be ashamed— I, too, am America.”
