TI & Tiny: Freaks? Yes. Sex Crimes? Maybe Not.
When the rumor mill started to buzz about rapper T.I. and his wife singer Tameka ‘Tiny’ Harris and their alleged involvement in sex, drugs, threesomes, lies and videotapes, EYE wasn’t surprised at all. There has always been gossip for as long as I can remember that the couple had an interesting sex life that involved some known and unknown video vixens, strippers, urban models, etc. But back then [the 2000s] that was just internet gossip. I didn’t take it seriously much like the things said about other celebrities. You know the old rumors: Ciara is a hermaphrodite, Beyonce and Jay Z are in the Illuminati, that incident with Lil Bow Wow in the limo that I won’t elaborate on. You know those kinds of petty, salacious rumors that really have no merit or proof. Over the years the couple’s relationship woes have come up in the media time and time again. Specifically T.I.’s cheating — and how can you forget the Tiny and Floyd Mayweather saga that led to a brawl between the boxer and Mr. Harris in Las Vegas. And then there was T.I. and Bernice Burgos. At one point a few years ago, Tiny even filed for divorce and moved out of the family home as documented on the couple’s VH1 reality show T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle. The divorce petition was withdrawn of course and the Harris’ seemed to be moving forward.
If I didn’t read so much, I wouldn’t even believe that couples intentionally look for other men or women to sleep with. Some even do it on such a regular basis that they end up in polyamorous relationships. While couples who solicit adults to their bedroom for consensual sex aren’t necessarily doing anything wrong, some would say they are definitely opening Pandora’s box. The woman in question, who is leading the accusations against Team Harris has been dubbed by the couple as someone who is obsessed and who doesn’t know if she loves or hates them. That made me pause and say why would this woman be obsessed with you guys? I mean yes you’re celebrities, but what’s the real tea? How do they even know each other? Over the next few days, it was revealed that this woman [allegedly] had been at one point a sexual partner of the couple. Well, that makes sense! Why would this random woman have such strong opinions about a man and his wife? Jaded lovers are very common. We read about them all the time, we watch them on tv, we listen to their music. We know they exist and this story is no different. The only difference is these are two people in the public eye whose bedroom habits have spilled over.
T.I. took to IGTV for a seven-minute video proclaiming that he along with his wife are innocent of any alleged crimes they are being accused of. He also basically confirmed that the couple does have a rotating list of sexual partners that’s always been consensual. He said they’ve never forced or drugged anyone to do anything they didn’t want to do. He said, “We like what we like. And we know how to find those that are into what we’re into…”
I believe T.I. I don’t believe that they’ve committed sex crimes that include rape, sex trafficking or false imprisonment. I believe any woman who has shared a bed with the couple was there on their own volition. With that being said just because you haven’t committed any “crimes” doesn’t mean you haven’t done something wrong. Being crude, disrespectful or dismissive to a woman you’re sleeping with [not your wife] isn’t a crime, but it will have you on Instagram defending your character.
“…my wife doesn’t deserve this,” said T.I. She doesn’t? That’s the question that I have from the perspective of how long does this celebrity couple think they can invite women, who are human beings and have feelings, into their bedroom and there will never be any negative blowback? I’m not professing to know what’s real and false with this scandal, but it’s simple cause and effect. People are messy, especially when exchanging bodily fluids are involved. What did they honestly expect? Another thing that’s striking is where are the non-disclosure agreements? Is there not some vetting process before you agree to such a tryst as a married famous couple?! I mean there have to be high-end agencies who assist couples who are looking for a freaky time, right?
Healthline describes sex addiction as “a compulsive need to perform sexual acts in order to achieve the kind of “fix” that a person with alcohol use disorder gets from a drink or someone with opiate use disorder gets from using opiates.”
“For some people, sex addiction can be highly dangerous and result in considerable difficulties with relationships. Like drug or alcohol dependence, it has the potential to negatively impact a person’s physical and mental health, personal relationships, quality of life, and safety.”
“It’s believed that a person with sex addiction will seek out multiple sex partners, though this in itself is not necessarily a sign of a disorder. Some report that it may manifest itself as a compulsive need to masturbate, view pornography, or be in sexually stimulating situations.”
Do T.I. and Tiny have a sex addiction? I have no idea. But this story began to make me wonder…what couple would take such sexual risks over so many years when the negative reaction could be life-altering? Once this story blows over as it is already beginning to, I believe T.I. and Tiny will resume their usual activities, which is their legal right. I would hope that they would realize that engaging in sexual relationships with various people outside of their marriage will not always end with “I enjoyed last night” texts.
Sometimes it ends with stalking, harassment, exposure, blackmail and in extreme cases death.
