WGN America’s underground railroad thriller is the networks most-watched original program ever. Matt Cherniss, president and general manager, WGN America and Tribune Studios announced on Tuesday, April 26 the show was renewed for a second season [no surprise there, the show is amazing, slavery and all].

The breakout hit series, created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, draws 3 million total viewers on Wednesday nights.
It is the #6 highest-rated scripted series premiere of any cable drama this season and Emmy whispers are buzzing.
“Underground” was the #1 original scripted series on cable last Wednesday night across all key demos in Live + 3 ratings.
“Underground” follows a courageous group of enslaved people who attempt a daring flight to freedom in the greatest escape in history.

The 10-episode second season order is set to begin production this summer for a 2017 debut.
The season finale will air Wednesday, May 11.
